What is a STAGES Intensive Camp?

An intensive camp is a 5 day 25 hour program that allows students of theatre and performing arts with a need of extra supports an opportunity to study their craft in an environment solely dedicated toward helping them set realistic, yet challenging goals toward their future in the field, whether it's as a side passion or a possible career goal. Camps will include studies in acting, improvisation, writing, vocal practice, choreography, stage craft, tech/lighting, makeup, costuming and auditioning. Intensives will be streamlined based on the actual campers signed up each week. The intensive camp will culminate in a showcase, not entirely resembling a variety show, but will include presentations from students who will be able to articulate, in some form, a summary of experience and a sense of where they are headed with newfound experience. How students present this will be determined by their area of interest, their communication preference and their chosen medium.

Is Each Camp Session Different?

Yes! Camps are meant to be a building process for continuing students, but can each be attended without needing to attend all.

Are Scholarships Available?

Yes! Full and half scholarships are available on a case-by-case basis. Parents or students can call 1-208-597-2457 and discuss their needs. Scholarships are based on financial need and require the commitment of a family, parent or student to volunteer in certain areas, fundraising events or recruit additional campers or sponsors. Scholarships are funded by the sponsors we are able to secure.

High School, Career & College-Bound Students

Camp intensives are designed to cultivate leadership in students who may be considering theatre/performing arts as a major/minor study or want to pursue projects in local community theatre. When students are ready to use intensives as a way to earn elective high school credits, they can ask for assistance with our advisors. Students will need to attend 3 camps to begin earning credits and initiate the request before attending first camp. NEED EXTRA SUPPORT? Our team is staffed, not only with those experienced in theatre arts, but also with support staff who practice in peer support, advocacy, autism support, disability support. This means that if you enter camp intensives needing someone to help advocate and make sure you are understood, we'll do our best to make sure that happens.

About STAGES Program

STAGES stands for Sandpoint Theatre Arts Growth through Educational Scholarships. This program is sponsored by Vital Northwest and founded by our first student scholarship instructor. Location patrons this summer are North Idaho Community Mental Health and the Ruby Hotel.

We started this specific program as a unique support to students and the community. Here’s how it works:

1) We identify students who are preparing to study theatre arts/performing arts as a profession or even a committed passion that helps them achieve other goals and are in need of additional supports (both financial and vocationally)

2) We work with their family to develop a long term plan/ideas/resources to achieve the goal

3) We host camps/workshops/labs where student can either instruct, learn to instruct or learn in whatever stage they are in the process.

a) Students who instruct are immediately eligible to earn scholarship money (when available through sponsors and camp fees).

b) All high school students can earn elective credit by attending and working with advisors and parents

4) We seek out sponsors for our camps, campers and instructors. Sponsors can give to a camp or the educational fund of a student. Sponsors will benefit by the exposure for an entire summer and possibly throughout the educational career of a student.

5) Students and their families are encouraged to become a part of the program, long-term and train up the next families coming in. A family could conceivably be a part of the program for 4-12 years

6) Students are encouraged and supported to create community theatre projects of their own, with other students, families and sponsors supporting their educational goals.

Camp scholarships become available as sponsors donate. We assign funds to campers as they come in. Campers are free to fundraise for their own scholarships and find sponsors as well, using camp materials to explain their cause.

Would you like to be a part of what we’re doing? Just call or message us! We are gaining more support every day and would love to have you be a part of theatre arts and student growth in Sandpoint! 1-208-597-2457.
